The big issue for the 21st century is sustainability - bringing human life into balance with the Earth' natural systems is a huge challenge that affects all areas of our lives. In this new continuing education course we address sustainability from the perspective of the root issue — our relationship with nature. We look at our inherent attraction to nature, identified as biophilia, and explore the many ways that our lives are interdependently related to nature. We also explore the many benefits that nature provides, especially the recently revealed health benefits of nature. And, we'l look at the emerging trend towards biophilic design that strives to keep nature lively in our lives by incorporating it into architecture. Finally, we'll look at the value of illusions of nature as a practical way to bring nature's benefits to enclosed interiors. |
Sustainability, Biophilia, and Illusions of Nature is a one-hour, one learning unit course approved for both HSW (health, safety and welfare) and SD (sustainable design) credit by the AIA' Continuing Education System.
Sky Factory provides the course free as a remote webinar featuring illustrated slides and a live audio presentation of the course. We will also arrange free lunch and learn events for groups. If you would like to schedule this course, or our other course, Use of Illusions in Architecture (qualifies for HSW), please email Dawn Murphy, dawnm@theskyfactory.com.
