Sky Factory Signature Artist Henry Domke

Henry Domke is an American fine art photographer well-known for his serene and evocative nature images. His work graces the lobbies, hallways, and waiting rooms of leading healthcare facilities in the United States.

Henry's first career as a family physician allowed him to understand how patients and their families feel when dealing with medical issues and the stress of coping with both treatment and illness.

Over time, Henry's passion for photography lead him to pursue a master's degree in Fine Art at the University of Missouri-Columbia. In 1981, Henry and his wife acquired a 600-acre property in central Missouri that they developed, over time, into the Prairie Garden Trust, a public nature garden.

"Much of my art is based on the native plants and animals that I find in 'my backyard,'" says Henry. "But I've also found inspiration farther afield in coastal landscapes, mountainous terrains, desert scenes, and seashells."

180 New Open Sky Compositions to Choose From

Peruse a beautiful new array of open sky compositions by Sky Factory fine artists. These compositions are designed to provide restorative views to nature with new, custom-tailored virtual skylights.

Our artists have been quietly culling, calibrating, and preparing the largest single batch of new Open Sky Compositions, not only increasing Sky Factory's image library holdings with new pre-set configurations, but simultaneously streamlining the selection and design phase. For designers, the result is instant availability of versatile configurations to review and try out without having to wait.

Working on 180 new images in the ceiling category alone, the new collection will allow customers to view best-selling images in new configurations while also gaining access to new open sky images in a variety of properly scaled sizes.

"We are excited to present this new collection because we've done a lot of the labor-intensive custom work upfront," says Franca Bator, artist in the Graphics Team.

Custom SkyCeiling Configuration "In so many projects, time is of the essence. But when a client falls in love with a particular open sky composition that is not available in a given set of dimensions, we have to customize the image and this takes time. Now, we can eliminate this type of situation by providing a wider range up front.

"Here's where Sky Factory's value is unique in this product category. Our team jumps in and ensures that we can customize the image to the required dimensions without compromising the master principles of composition, scale and perspective, and other key design traits. These guidelines enable our biophilic illusions to deliver both the emotional connection that nature imagery evokes, as well as the spatial component that deepens biophilic engagement," adds Franca.

Two Luminous Virtual Windows depicting a single scene broken up to trigger depth perception

When it comes to views to nature, there's more than meets the eye. The restorative experience of overlooking a commanding natural vista is the secret ingredient that triggers the automatic "relaxation response" in our physiology.

In natural environments, a deepening of this experience, denominated biophilic engagement, happens effortlessly.

In enclosed interiors, it takes a mix of artistry and engineering to create the most seductive and visually enticing biophilic illusions.

Sky Factory artists have been working to expand our offering of Luminous Virtual Windows and introduce a more complete array of combinations—doubles, triples, quadruples, clerestories and more—that can transform enclosed interiors and confining spaces into remarkable environments with panoramic views that relax mind and body.

"We design the composition of these images with the specific intention of triggering what's called 'binocular vision,'" says Radim Schreiber, award-winning photographer and videographer. "By carefully selecting where the image breaks and where it continues along a single plane like a wall, or even two or three walls, we can visually create a very realistic notion that there is a gorgeous natural exterior that surrounds the confines of a given space, and this changes how people physically react to the interior."
